thanks Leo; you beat me to it. I have some nerve damage in my left hand, so I had to try a different but very similar approach. I grab the ring with my right hand, but still so my thumb is close to the barrel that holds the rib in place. I then put some pressure on the ring, pushing away from my body. My left hand is holding the rib steady so it doesn't flex, and then with my right thumb I release the barrel from the ring.

I'll try your way tonight and see if that's easier for me.

BTW, setting up the DO is pretty simple and straight-forward, too, once you get the hang of it. I do it by pressing down on opposite ribs against the floor as show below. The locking nuts will click and lock on its own.

That's the way I tried to do it at first but I struggled doing it that way because I have small hands. I couldn't get enough leverage on the ring with my right hand and still be able to work the locking nut with the thumb.

:) Thanks PacAce! I just tried your Octo stow method and it works great! :) I wish Elinchrom would put a one page instruction sheet with your picture and explanation in the box with all Octos!

they have setup, just not folding it. For me, the setup was pretty easy.

Thanks for your tips on how to work w/ the Octa. But just in case I can't get it done at quick enough or before I resort to using a hammer are there any volunteers willing to swing by and set it up for me? :P

Currently have:
2x Elinchrom D-Lite4
1x Elinchrom Rotalux 100cm x 100cm
1x Elinchrom Rotalux 130cm x 50cm
1x Elinchrom Portalite 66cm
1x Elinchrom Portalite 53cm
1x Elinchrom Skyport Transmitter
1x Elinchrom Skyport Receiver

And everything else that comes with the D-Lite 2 Go kit.

I'm currently debating on making the jump to the 600/300rx sets or another D-Lite 4 set since I've still got so much I need to grab for my lens kit. I do know that I'm going to pick up the deep throat next and then a couple reflectors.

No f/8 but what we make

My problem is I have short arms, and reaching in to open my Octa, I nearly fall in and roll around :)

What you need is a body harness and a stand with a boom arm to hang off of. :D

Ok may be a stupid question but I have search and could not find a specific answer. Anyways, I'm getting my 400bx Kit tomorrow and I have a question about syncing.I already have 4 pocket wizards for my off camera speedlights. Should sync the two strobes with PW or just the main light and have the other strobe fired by optical slave?

Is there any advantage to having a PW for each storbe? Since I already have them I'd use them if there is. If not I'd rather not use them. Hope that makes sense. I also ordered a Dlite 4 today on ebay. So I'll have a third light next week!

The advantage is that it will make sure your strobes always fire and allow you to meter them individually. If you have the triggers already you may as well use them.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figured. I just didn't want to add a failure point if there was no real advantage. Thanks again

thought id ask in here while im at it

2 things

1. So the RX triggers work with the RX systems right, what about the universals, will they work with my dlite4? I dont really need them in my apartment but I figured I may need them when I get to some location stuff.

2. Should I get the 7" reflector for umbrella or that mini plastic looking reflector (6.5" i think?) with umbrella, im worried about hotspots, and is their a way to keep the pole in the strobe from sliding? I i didnt see a thing to keep it from going anywhere (unless that comes with the umbrella itself)

thanks

The Elinchrom central umbrella holder has a system to keep the umbrella shaft in place. And you would use THIS REFLECTOR (external link) with an umbrella.
