A little off topic here but I was just wondering if you guys also noticed. We Elinchrom users talk about anything Elinchrom on any "Elinchrom thread" even though the thread was meant for something else more specific. Lol.

I just noticed that we go off topic a lot and I kind of enjoy it. You never know what modifiers or whatever will be discussed next.

I think we got the Elinchrom bug inside :)

We go off topic because in the end we're all very passionate about lighting and the toys we use to create and design lighting for our images. Despite the fact that we're Elinchrom users we still explore and recognize when another manufacturer is doing something good or of interest.

^ agreed. I'm probably the worst offender at going off-topic on threads...

However, sometimes when you go back to a thread, or you find something via google, the 'off topic' data helps more than the on-topic data. I've noticed this on several occasions.

By the way, which 3-strobe case do you guys have? Can you guys give me a link? I can sift through the bazillions of Pelican cases and try to imagine if my strobes would fit with the given dimensions, but I'd rather have first hand experience type of suggestions.

I might just sell my BXRi bag now that I have three. I love the bag but I don't want to leave an odd one out. I refuse to discriminate one of my strobes. Lol.

What I'd like to see at some point is a side by side comparison of the lighting produced by a Mola Setti and the new Elinchrom 70cm deep octa. They're both roughly the same size, and I'm sure people will use the new octa with just the inner diffuser to produce BD-like lighting. I'm not looking for a debate on one being "better" than the other. I'm just curious about the differences to see if I, personally, like the lighting from one over the other. The octa will be easier to cart around, but the setti might be more stable in the wind outside. Has Elinchrom said when the new deep octa will start shipping?

Cameras: 1DX, 1D4, 20D, 10D, S90, G2
Lenses: Canon 10-22mm, 16-35mm f2.8L II, 24-70mm f2.8L, 70-200mm f2.8L IS, 300mm f2.8L IS, 200mm f2L IS, 50mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2L, 85mm f1.2L, 1.4x TC, 2x TC, 500D macro, Zeiss 21mm
Lighting: 580EX, Elinchrom 600 RX's, D-Lite 4's, ABR800, 74" Eli Octa, 100cm/70cm DOs, Photoflex Medium Octa and reflectors, PW's, Lastolite Hilite, Newton Di400CR bracket

I have an Elinchrom hard case which holds three heads and their cables. I think it can be bought separately too and it's definitely fairly solid.

I'd only be happy if Elinchrom rebranded Pelican cases. I'm sorry but the only fault i can give Elinchrom is their hard cases suck.

great point. It's the only thing preventing me from getting a setti now.

I agree....when when when?!

Protection-wise, I guess you can say that. But transporting-wise, it's not bad. The BXRi case I have I just sling across my chest which is great. Right now I need something else, though.

I really like mine. What has been your bad experience with them?

Off-topic in a slightly other direction,

A friend of mine shoots Bowens S-Type Mounts and we're just wondering if it's possible to mount his modifiers on my Quadras? Would be very hand for location work. I'm sure I've read the answer somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Yeah, I've mentioned this exact thing to Ed a few times.

Yup, horribly inefficient shape, if nothing else.

The shape is dreadful, and they take up WAY too much room for what they do.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

We don't use anything else. I use them for anything, to stand on, sit on... anything. We've taken them on little dinky boats in India. I trust those cases more than anything else.

And now we use a 1510 to hold our Hasselblad gear. Hasselblad was rebranding Pelican cases for a while. Hopefully that's good enough for most. :)

LOL.. Ok definetly the Elinchrom case is not sturdy enough to stand on them (the Pelican can be thrown away from a 5th floor and still work). I am not even sure I would risk sending my strobes in that case without any external protection, but the case was not designed for that. It was designed for storage and to move it in car to location shoots (and not to stand on them :)). For what they were designed and their relatively cheap price I say they are a good buy.
