Hey no problem guys. I don't own the Avenger gear but based on the recommendations and images from others I was able to borrow an A5017 with a D200 and 40" arm. I find that to be a great system for my studio.

When I take the 53" Octa on location I either mount it right to the top of the light stand or if I need a greater angle I just use a superpclamp and a Manfrotto 042. It's simple, lightweight, takes up almost no space and replaces a longer arm or boom.

Oops, my mistake, I was for some reason under the impression you owned a few of their stands. Guess I should have checked the gear list before assuming. Sorry. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Are you sure you want those strobes. The original EL's are excellent analog strobes and are built like tanks but they are only adjustable over a 3 stop range. That means you have 1000, 500 and 250 Watt seconds. With a minimum power of 250 Watt seconds you're going to run into all kinds of problems. Even if the kit were only being used on location it's going to be a pain in the ass.

I would withdraw your bid unless you have really compelling reasons for wanting those strobes.

EDIT: and the seller indicates he shot in gymnasiums and large venues. whole other game.

$25?

The auction just began, there is a 'Buy It Now' of $1,100 and almost $40 in shipping. By the end of the auction my guess is that you'll have a real sense of what they are worth and it's going to be far more than $25.

Thanks guys Ill look into these!

Oh! Why oh why arent those black?!

Im quite sure it wont affect their performance though...;)

I dont like black, as the paint will get scratched either way when used on location.

I have the Manfrotto 420B combi stand i wouldn't recommend it for anything but lightweight stuff indoors if had the choice. (Iv abused it and used a RX compact with a 100X100cm rotalux box and a ton a counterweights, nothing i recommend though lol)

Paul L.

Another Avenger evangelist here. I love their products, we recently replaced our aluminium stands from the crappy generics to Avenger ones, and our boom is Avenger as well. Totally reliable and strong as hell. Best way i can put it - if Avenger and i got into a fight, Avengers would win.

Same here. Avenger is worth lugging the weight because I know my strobe will never come crashing down due to some weak points on the stand and boom.

I've been using the 74" Eli Octa on the Avenger A5017, and the legs are great for sandbags. It feels very solid with the big octa on it.

I agree the legs on the A5017 are great for sandbags.

I have a pair of the A670 which uses the same legs, it weighs about the same the A420 and A5017 can handle... :-)

Unless you need heigh of the A420 its a great alternative. I prefer the setup of the A420 though.
