yeah I saw that.. Wow I would not venture to have that monster on a location shoot unless I had a big strong guy holding it... Those dudes have balls.

Actually, the El Octa is superb for location shoots, because it is easy to transport and folds up in a minute. Of course having a good stand such as the Avenger is mandatory. I've used it in mild wind without sandbags without trouble.

For the love of god why do the yanks keep such a unprecise measurements as imperial ?! :D

Funny thing about metric vs correct measurements: at lunch today we were talking about women and one of the guys was describing a very attactive girl he'd recently met. He described her as "weighing about 110, maybe 120 at the most" and the reaction of the guys who usually think in metric was a lot different than the rest of the table...

Oh, and this is my "I received my BXRi and now I can post in this thread" post.

Agreed. I've used mine on location with that same stand, as well as one size down from it (the A4039CS) with great results. Everytime I run out of sun for the last look, I use the EL Octa as fill, as it seems to be one of the few modifiers that can easily disguise the fact that it's pitch black outside in the photos.

Wow, small world. I'm like a 10 minute drive from the seller right now. Normally I'm out on the west coast. Too bad he doesn't have anything cool like an El Octa, or I'd drive over and buy it from him!

:)

I would love an Octabank... I have just rented it twice and loved it... But at more than$1000 my wife would cut my balls and handle them back in a platter ;)

I like lbs for weight and cms for length and degrees celsius for temp but psi for tire pressire and kph for speed. Either we have the best of both worlds in Canada or we are pretty ****ed up :) the only thing I hate is gas efficiency unit Litres/100 km ...

Output (efficiency) is about the same as the 1.35 Rotalux Octa. The difference is the quality of the light. Only using the internal diffuser the Deep Octa gives light similar to a Beauty Dish (just a tiny bit less contrasty) and it's main characteristic is the double edge transfer on the shadows.

got any recommendations for a good Avenger light stand to hold the 600RX and 53 inch for on location work? I was thinking of trying to find one that could double as a boom setup too when Im somewhere indoors and need a boom. Right now I have a Manfrotto 3336 (now the 368B LINK (external link)) which isnt a bad stand but its not the greatest either. I cant see it swaying/wobbling with this setup on it if the wind picks up a bit.

I have a couple stands that I really like. My heavier duty stand is a Manfrotto 007BUAC with an adjustable leveling leg. It's nice and sturdy without being too over the top. I've boomed the 53" Octa out 4 or 5 feet using an Avenger D600 boom. It's got a Cine Mount so I use the Avenger E200 Junior to Baby adapter when I'm using the D600 Boom.

My smaller stand is a Avenger A630B, good sturdy compact stand that's a little more portable. Not sure I'd boom the 53" way out with this one, but as a central mount I'm more than comfortable with it up to 6" or so, sandbagged.

Yeah, it's more about quality of light and coverage than output.

If you've been married long enough, you won't need those balls anyway, but you definitely need the Octabank!
