So I'm new to digital photography with an SLR. I bought my first a couple of months ago. My wife was a little shocked that I was spending $650 on a camera but she felt better after seeing the pictures of our kids that I've been taking with it. That being said, I've been dying to get a Canon 100-400 L lens (I want to take wildlife photos) and today I finally did. I ordered it from B&H. The thing is, I don't want her to know that I dropped close to $1600 on a lens, filter, and Realtree Max camo protective sleeve for it so instead of using a credit card, I set it up to pay with a money order. I overnighted them the two (USPS only writes them to $1,000) money orders so they'd get them by tomorrow at noon and hopefully I'll get the lens by Saturday as they're only 120 miles away.

Anyway, I feel pretty sneaky about the whole deception thing but I figure, she'll love the pictures I'll be able to take with this new lens and deep down I'll eventually know that I made the right decision. No?

No, not one of us has ever told anything but the whole truth to our SOs in regards to our spending on equipment. :D

HA ha im kinda of in the same boat except i didnt spend 1600 it was more like 500. sent a money order and i told her i traded my 75-300 f4-5.6 man i love ignorance ha ha. The only reason i was trying to be sneaky is because i just bought a tamron 28-75 and she probably would have flipped her lid

with that said enjoy the lens!!! shoot a duck!!!

I know I haven't been dishonest, but I'm rarely proud of the massive amounts spent on equipment...just to make more money taking photos...which is a self cancelling situation.

That would mean we would have to all cancel our subscriptions to this site. We all know it leads to more money spent:lol:

My advice to you: When you find a small box in a mail with some earings inside with something that looks like a pieces of broken glass do not look at your bank account for at least a year :-)

Yeah, the wife and I had "the talk" about spending too much money on glass. But she didn't seem to mind afterwards with the nice 8 x 10 portraits and photos of her in the end. She's OK with it now but placed a "at least tell me before you buy it clause."

Hey, I figure it works both ways. She goes shopping for all kinds of stuff. And I buy a lens. She goes shopping for more stuff and I buy another lens.....:)
