Question about canon 70-300 zoom

Why does this lens sell for so little? I just saw one sold for 85 dollars. Is it a poor lens? I have seen some pictures taken with it that looked really good to me.. (novice)

Yes it is one of the poorer performing lenses. I don't know if I would call it "poor" but compared to others it is not as good. There are also a lot of them on the market and demand is not too great, so that plays a role. Around Christmas, Canon was giving them away for nearly free with instant rebates on some cameras.

Generally if you can afford to, you would be better off picking the Canon 55-250 IS or Sigma 70-300 AP0 as a budget telephoto.

just to point out...it's most likely the canon 75-300mm...not the 70-300mm...they are two different lenses...one sells for $150, the other for about $550...apparently the lack of a 5 is worth an extra 400 bucks...and also everything else on it is better too
