Funny how the little guys can be so territorial and aggressive!

Why are there nails in the top. Does it help keep doves away or something?

I'm not too sure really; well I am and I aren't, the Nature Reserve thread twigs through them (so that's what the nails are for); but just what the twigs are supposed to do I have no idea

If they're supposed to keep the bigger birds and animals off the table then they clearly don't work very well ;)

EDIT:
Any critique on the shots wouldn't go a miss as I'm not a bird shooter but I'm finding myself drawn in that direction, since I lost my job I can no longer attend the more expensive events to get my fix while a trip to the Nature Reserve costs next to nothing.

All nice shots Mick and I really like the third one showing all the birds at the feeder. Sorry about the loss of your job but I hope you continue to observe and photograph the birds...it is a whole new world. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the kind comments, I've never looked back since I got the 300mm f4 IS. I like my 100-400 IS and my 70-200 IS but the 300 is yielding better results than either of them; even with the 2X extender on as it was with all of these shots the results are still pleasing.
