40D Centre Focus Spot

Hi All,

Appreciate some feedback. When using the 40D in sports mode, does the centre focus spot light up when focus has been achieved, with the usual little beep?
The reason is that the Canon repair centre said that it did not (as mine does). it only makes a little beep.

In 'Sports' mode with the shutter button half pressed and providing focus can be achieved, the camera emits a faint continuous 'bleep' but the centre AF point does not light up. If focus cannot be achieved the camera does not bleep and the focus confirmation light will flash. That's what the manual says and after trying my 40D, that's exactly what it does.

Thanks. I looked for some reference in the manual, but did not find. I find it hard to believe that the the only feedback is a 'beep'. I sure miss the confirmation of the light in a noisy environment.
