I spent a very sunny Tuesday afternoon at Oulton Park for the first day of a two day British F3 test there. C&C welcome and encouraged on these shots, more from the day on my Flickr.

8. Daisuke Nakajima coming into Lodge. Does this work? I quite like it but I'd like some other opinions

Nice work, I like the "Hilltop" angle in particular. As for "Henry Arundel", surely you mean "Henry Miles Fitzalan-Howard, Earl of Arundel and Surrey"... show the proper respect ;)

Thanks. I was pleased with how #3 came out, just wish I'd been able to open the lens up more to give it a bit more depth of field. I'd left the ISO set at 160 instead of dropping it to 100, which would have helped a little.

What is the "torpedo" looking apendage on the left of the car behind the driver?

Supercharger?

It's the air intake for the engine. F3 engines are restricted to limit power to around 230bhp; you'll see how small the hole in the front of the intake is. The shape is partly to aid the aerodynamics of the car and partly to help the engine breathe by slowing the air down before the it reaches the throttle bodies.

F3 cars run production based, 2000cc 4 cylinder engines.

This shot puts it into a bit more context:

Ah! Gotcha...

Akin to the "Restrictor Plate" in NASCAR then. Now that you've explained it clearly, I'm just noticing that the roll bar is only that and that there's no air intake built into it ala F1...

Thanks very much! :D
