I took this shot yesterday morning. I like it, but I don't think it's very good (or at least has big room for improvement, only I'm not quite sure where).

I think what I like is the blurred boats, the nice misty water look and in contrast that post which isn't blurred. I think the clouds could either be there or not, in post I ended up deciding to give them definition instead of toning them down.

Any comments? Suggestions for this particular shot or tips for next time appreciated.

I really like it a lot too.

My only suggestion would be to crop out some of the sky towards the top to move the horizon up and out of the center of the frame.

Nice shot.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's a recropped version. I also thought I should increase the exposure a bit as well, it seemed a bit dark when I posted the first one here.

I very much like the slow shutter's work on the boat as well, but it's not moving enough, it may be interesting to leave the shutter for longer and see a faint trail, right now it looks more like camera shake :P

Maybe I could try make the post a bit more obvious. By the way, I checked out your photoblog, some really great shots in there!

I have the reverse opinion on the cropping. That sky looks to me like it is fairly dramatic. It's a matter of taste of course but I think I might crop out some of the foreground water and emphasize the sky more. Leave enough border for that sign/post however it's a nice anchor for the foreground.

I have a thing for clouds, so I'm going to go against the flow and vote for less water. I think having slightly less water in the foreground helps to emphasize the post and I feel closer to the boats which draws me in more, plus I like the nice pink coloured sky being in the middle of the shot. This may be way off base but i like it all the same, a really nice picture :)

Thanks for all the feedback people.

Here it is cropping out the water instead.

I also gave the horizon a slight nudge as it looked a little out.
