I finally have my camera - went to pick it up yesterday and am very pleased with it. It's an 8-month-old, low mileage 40D that has obviously been loved in its previous life. I like the sturdier, heavier build and additional capabilities (over my XTi). Spent last night learning the new controls, and will get out and take some pics in the next few days. Can't wait for the outdoor sports season to start (we still have several feet of snow on the ground here in the frozen North)! I'm competing at an indoor trial over the weekend and may have time between events to test the camera's ISO performance.

Thanks to all who helped me make up my mind by recommending the upgrade. I've decided to keep my XTi as a second body for the time being.

Here's one of my first batch of shots with the new camera. There's a big step up in AF capability for action shots, compared to my XTi; I'm very happy with my purchase.
