Hey Matt,

Is there a story as to why the stones are knocked over?

Regards,

Simon

It's probably the same story as all of the cemeteries with knocked over headstones. For some odd reason apparently there are people that get their chuckles by destroying a peaceful, hallowed place where others go to pay respect to those that have gone on before them.

Never was able to understand this. Just pure meanness. :-(

I have a lengthy story in my flickr and IG posts, but it concerns my thoughts on my hometown visit to Indianapolis. That story is not pertinent here. There is no evidence of natural or accidental causes, so I presume it is molestation by simpletons. Some people are offended or disturbed by that, and while I understand that point of view, I think decay is the natural course whether intentional or otherwise. I like these places because they are quiet--even in Manhattan's financial district.

Corinne Lawton, Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, GA
Corinne has been cleaned. Her white marble looks great now that the black and green mold have been removed.

You'd be surprised....
Over here, it's ONLY due to earthquakes!

Cool philosophy.

Personally, I wonder if vandalism of grave-sites could in part, be due to a desperate attempt at a rejection of the truth of our own mortality by the individuals who display such sad behaviour.

But perhaps this is a whole other conversation?

Regards,

Simon

This is from one of the Titanic cemeteries in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is so sad to know that people that were on this famous ship lie here. I walked and read each tombstone. Disregard the picture quality...it's a photo of a photo. I just dug them up out of a box and took a pic with my iPad.
