Hey J, beautifully photographed stupas there. Real gold?

In days long gone by maybe, now just layer upon layer of gold paint..

Still beautiful though....

Which reminds me, I really should get a sneaking shot of a Japanese funeral car sometime. They're kinda "tacky" and have a massive wooden structure on the back where the dead are carried which is coated in gold paint......I'll try to make that my next addition to the "dead thread".
:D

Funerals here are also a lavish affair and at times over the top but a whole lot of fun.. Buddhists don't mourn their dead like we do in the West but celebrate their lives..

Once the monks have done their thing the mourners place candles, food and water around the funeral pyre.. Candles for light, water and food for nourishment for the journey into the other life.. Rockets are shot into the pyre and the whole thing goes up with a bang,,coloured smoke and all.. Then people throw sweets at the mourners and guests then everyone goes home happy..

I told Mrs Yogestee this is the way I want to go out,,with a bang!!

Me too, Jurgen!!! Despite starting this thread, the last thing I want is to be mourned and burnt to a crisp in some dismal crematorium, then shoved in a pot, in the ground, with a lump of stone shoved on top!!!

If I remember right, i think I added a little to the image. I took this about the time I bought "Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3" so I was trying a lot of those things out. My PS skills were pretty rudamentery before then and really until about a month ago.

In India the Hindus like to cremate their dead. Here is the wood stacked for funeral pyres in Varanasi, next to the Holy Ganges River.

No problem. All you have to do is die, pay for the wood and they'll cremate you there on the Ganges. Your extravagance would be talked about for years.
