Here's one from my visit to Terezin concentration camp. These were on the floor in the columbarium. It was a very sobering and essentially indescribable experience to visit such a place.

Great shot.
Great addition to the thread.
And it's a Great Escape, that none of us were alive and had to suffer like those at the time in the "death camps".

Keep 'em coming...

Another powerful photo. The grayscale works very well for this shot

WOW, what a thread!!

last night, when i came across this thread, i spent a few hours reading every post. as i was reading i was anxiously looking forward to the last post so i could offer a pic or two. then i read simon's post about his father, and i got a sickening knot in my stomach. even though i registered a couple of years ago, i'm not much of a poster. but after reading simon's posts, i felt compelled to write and offer simon my deepest condolences for his untimely loss. simon, i hope that your unknowing, ironic journey into this thread can somehow help ease the pain of your loss and also help any others who have experienced such a painful loss.

simon, your photographs from your father's funeral are so very powerful and moving. i can only try to imagine the emotions you experienced while making these photos, your emotions are truly translated into your images.

i'm fortunate enough to still have my parents with me, so this is a bridge i have yet to cross. i've been wondering for years now, when my day comes, if i will be able to document the event. i've always thought that if i could muster the courage to carry a camera and actually make an image or 2, i would probably put them away and not look at them for years, if ever. your courage and generosity in sharing your photos so soon, i hope, can somehow help you and others in the healing process of coping with your/their loss. as well as a means of honoring the life and memories of your father.

doug

now .... i need to find a foto to post ....

WOW, what a thread!!...when i came across this thread, i spent a few hours reading every post. as i was reading i was anxiously looking forward to the last post so i could offer a pic or two.

Glad you like the thread Doug...:D

...then i read Simon's post about his father, and i got a sickening knot in my stomach....i felt compelled to write and offer Simon my deepest condolences....

My Dad was a HUGE Monty Python fan - thus, I am too! - and my Dad was a priest, so this thread was partly because of/for him; the title being a quote from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Trust me Doug, your condolences are warmly accepted, and furthermore, my POTN chums have helped me more than I can say regarding Dad's very sudden death - from "I've a pain in my stomach" to flat-line in 3 days!

Simon, your photographs from your father's funeral are so very powerful and moving...

The picture of Dad in his cofin was my brother's effort. Dad died so suddenly that it was impossible to get from Japan to England quick enough to say goodbye...and when I did get there, the funeral dudes said the cancer was so aggressive, his body had deteriorated too much for me to see him. And besides which, do you think I'd take such an OOF shot!!!!
;)

....i'm fortunate enough to still have my parents with me....

Please, do me, them, and yourself a favour:
Tell them you love them more often than you do now, because it hurts so much that I can't say that to my Dad ever again.

...i hope [POSTing these pictures] can somehow help you and others in the healing process of coping with your/their loss. as well as a means of honoring the life and memories of your father.
Doug

Emboldened....
That's my hope too, Doug.
Hope to see some additions from you soon in.....
"The Dead Thread!"
Regards,
Simon
