Hi,

I was wondering, does your 5D Mk II "collects" dirt into it?
It seems that the Focus Screen and the mirror keeps on "collecting" dirt on them.

I have replaced the focus screen once.

I never had this kind of "problem" before.
Does the the fact that it has a bigger focus screen and a bigger mirror has something to do with it?

Does anyone else share the same "problem" ?

I've had dirt get on the focus screen on all of my EOS bodies from time to time. I just pop the screen out and blow it off.

Mine seems to get dirty faster than my other bodies.

Yes, the larger surface area of the sensor/focusing screen/mirror are more prone to attracting dust than an APS-C body.

Dust on the sensor/mirror is pretty easy to clean and really isn't a big issue. It is a little more difficult to clean the focusing screen and AF indicator screen, and it is worth noting that dust on the focusing screen/AF indicator screen won't affect IQ, it is simply an annoyance. Also, when using a rocket blower or something similar it is wise to avoid directing air towards the viewfinder area. If you're going to use a rocket blower on the mirror, try to use light puffs, so you don't direct too much air up towards the viewfinder area.

See this link for how to clean the AF screen and AF indicator plate:

It doesn't attract any more dust than any other camera of its size and type.

You replaced a focusing screen because of dust? That's like buying a new pair of shoes because of dust.

It`s all related to operator use. If your careful when you change your lenses, then you`ll have less of a chance that dirt gets into the body.
I really has more to do with open body contamination with the lens off then anything else....00.02$...;)

No different from my old 5D. Why did you replace the screen when it got dusty? Just clean it. If your new Mark II gets dusty I would be happy to take it off your hands while you buy a new one. Just joking.

I have some dust specks on my focus screen, but as long as there's no dust on the sensor, I'm not bothered.

Never replaced it myself, but you can call the canon parts department at 732-521-7230.
