hello. i'm in the market for a 5D1 and i've seen some decent deals on factory refurbs from different retailers - ranging from $1300 - $1500.

question is, has anyone gone this route - if so, any issues? also, if it's worth a shot, can someone direct me to a reputable seller?!

thanks in advance!

I'd stay away. Stick with the trusted online shops like Adorama, KEH and B&H.

thanks for the heads up! at $1199, they've got the best price. the last time i check, neither Adorama and B&H carries the refurbished 5D1.

I bought mine from Adorama about a month ago, and they are still available. Just follow the link. It appears that right now B&H does not have any refurbs in stock. That does not mean that they will not get anymore in sometime soon.

I doubt anyone can legitimately sell a Canon refurbished for 1199.00 when legitimately trusted stores sell it all the time for 1399.00. I can imagine ordering that camera and getting an email to call them for the price of the accessories or they are out of stock if you dont.

Yep, definitely. I've yet to hear a negative experience with Adorama's refurbs.

that's good to know, thank you! can you give me some feedback on your experience with the refurb thus far? can you tell it's a refurb? any type of wear that you can tell or is a new housing part of the refurb? any and all info would be helpful in helping me makin' this purchase.

Also bought an Adorama refurb camera. My only complaint is that I should have bought one of these cameras YEARS AGO :D

Do it and don't think twice about it... unless your funds are limited.

Check the B&H website early in the morning. I just bought a used 5D from them for $1299. It was rated a 9 out of 10, but I can't tell it from new, I'm very happy. I think they also get refurished, but they show up unannounced on the website first thing in the morning, and from what I've seen, they are gone before noon.

Good Luck,

Ed

My camera appears to have been one that was pulled from the production line, as there was no wear on it whatsoever. Everything feels as good as brand new, and the only difference found with this one and a new one is the refurbed sticker on the bottom of the camera. I would not hesitate buying one refurbished at all. It is a great camera and a great investment!:D

It's up a $100 dollars from last week.
Last week 1399.00
Now: 1499.95
They have a kit for $1460
I got one last week from Adorama and it appeared like new.
No focus issues. Perfect.
