One caution. How may shots were taken by the refurb model? I assume refurbished 5Ds do not have new shutter mechanisms installed but just cleaned up etc. This is what I would be worried about. The shutter mechanisms can be replaced if you get a good deal, though.

I have read that a lot of the cameras sold as refurb were ones that were pulled for some reason off the assembly line. If it is pulled, it can no longer be sold as new, but as refurb'd. And with the one I received, I can tell you that it appears to be that way. This was my second refurb purchase from Adorama, and I could not have asked for a better one either time, as they both appeared in NIB condition.

MacFly,

Just type "5d" in the search box on the main page of B&H. It shows the 5D as discontinued but will say "buy used" if one is available. I just checked, as of 7:30 this morning there is one there. Condition 9 for $1349.

Good Luck,

Ed

The refurb 5Ds are a great way to go. I bought mine from Adorama about a month ago. Not all are pulled from the production line, however. Some are customer returns, demos, and the like. Mine had a few minuscule nicks in the paint that were touched up. Other than that it was as new. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I got my 5D as a refurb from Adorama.

I 100% totally would recommend it.
It looked brand new. Not one mark on it at all.

No focusing issues.....sharp as can be.....clean inside and out.....

really really nice...

Oh man, I just received mine from Adorama yesterday and so far so good, looks new, had a shutter count around 780. And I am in LOVE with this camera, my husband now has competition! HAHA.

Buy with no hesitation, if you search the threads in this section you'll find GREAT feedback about refurbs...no regrets, course I've only had it 2 days but it is wonderful so far!

It's great that you have a full-frame camera and one fast 50mm lens.

IMO, that's a great way to learn photography.

I hate that Canon doesn't have a fast 50mm with the build and true-USM of the 85/1.8.

You will find that most refurbs in any industry are items that were returned due to a malfunction right after it was purchased and was returned by the retailer to the manufacturer where the malfunction was repaired and sent back out as a refurb. The word refurb sounds like it was worn out and refurbished, this is not the case as it is not cost efficient for the retailer or manufacturer. Most refurbs are in as new condition.

Dont confuse refurbs and "used" at B&H. Used have 30 day warranty and may have limited accessories. Refurbs come in sealed refurb box with all accessories and 90 day warranty.

There were rumors circulating that perhaps a re-design were to be released, based on the fact that many retailers were showing out-of-stock on the 50/1.4. I can only wish...build it like the 85/1.8 and I'm all over it. ;)
