Just got a call from 740-368-0299, and the person asked to speak to, "Peter Phan."
me. "May I ask who is calling?"
Caller. "Is this Peter Phan?"
Me. "Who is this, and what business do you have with him?"
Caller. "Is this Peter Phan, could I please speak to Peter Phan."
What banker in their right mind works on SUNDAY @ 7:50pm? After a long roundabout way for me to figure out who this was, I get the caller to tell me that there is already business between Citibank and Macy's with Peter Phan (me).
I angrily answer, "I'm Peter Phan, and I have no open accounts with either Citi or Macy's."
Caller then says, "Ok, well let me verify your account information to see if we have the right person. May I have your Social Security# and address?"
Peeved, I snarl, "Why don't you tell me who you're looking for and what address they live at? I'm not giving you my sensitive info from a solicited call."
Caller. "I cannot do that for security reasons."
Me. "Fine, tell me the zip code."
Caller. "I cannot do that either."
Me. "Tell me what zip code, because if someone is stealing my identity then I want to know what the *EFF* is going on!"
Caller. "04353. I'm sorry I may have the wrong Peter Phan."
Moral of this story. Make sure you only give your security information to the people you know are within the business you're trying to reach. If you get a "courtesy" call, tell them you'll contact the company directly to straighten the matter out.
I figured this belonged here, because it pertains to buying things? I don't know. Just want to warn you guys.
