check the lens archive above... I used to have planar 50, had to go because of updates and sicerely the sigma 50 is just as good and even better with its big glass when it comes to saturation and bokeh...

edit: Af about the same... :)

either...

A: you aren't aware that the Zeiss ZE's are manual focus lenses
B: you've never used the Zeiss ZE's (and likely no other Zeiss lens either)
C: you are in denial
D: you're commenting on the Sigma's AF sucking being akin to not having AF at all - ala Zeiss
E: all of the above
F: A,B, and C only.

I've got some old Contax Zeiss glass (50/1.4 and a 35/2.8) with adapters which I really enjoy shooting with quite a lot. So much so - in terms of colour, microcontrast, etc. - that I'm semi-seriously considering having a Contax N 24-85 converted to EOS, just so I can have full USM-style AF-ness and lovely Zeiss colours.

I was just wandering if anyone has the experience with EF mount Zeiss lens. I will go to HK in a couple of days. I was thinking about picking one up.

I tried the ZE 50 f/1.4 the other day, and wasn't particularly impressed. The copy I tried was relatively soft wide open, and while it had much better bokeh than the Contax version of the lens, the sharpness was way behind. Maybe it was just a bad copy, but it wasn't impressive.

I used to own a Contax Zeiss 50 f/1.7, and it was one of the sharpest lenses I've ever mounted to a camera. Bokeh was pretty bad, though.

the MF is quite fast but it is prone to front or backfocus focus a bit if your not careful....LOL
