it's been a month of bikini test shoots and I'm so sick of bikini lol

well, hanging out with beautiful girls on a beach and calling it work doesnt seem bad. It could be worse. You could be doing porta poty catalog shots

Or even worse working a desk job for the 6th day in a row :( like me

this Maxilite has the polished surface, so maybe it's a Maxispot

Yep, that's definitely the maxispot. I got the same thing from amazon (and from B&H)....a maxispot inside a maxilite box. Spoke to Elinchrom/Bogen folks and they said there must be a mixup at the factory.

suspected it was Maxispot. I'll keep it since it should give maximum light for use with the Quadra

You can get glass covers for the bulbs on the Ranger and other Elinchrom lights but dot they attach like all the modifiers on the bayonet or do they fit inside of that so I can use one with a beauty dish?

Good news and bad news, Jannie. They attach separately from the bayonet mount, so you will be able to use modifiers (think about it, they'd be useless if you couldn't use modifiers), BUT... they block the umbrella mount central hole, so you won't be able to mount your deflectors (which you need with a beauty dish).

Is the free kata bag back on? Just went to Adoramas site and see the freebag back on certain quadra sets.

Rudi. I'm using a Mola beauty dish now, do the make a frosted or white glass cover, so far I've only seen clear and 440 degree kelvin yellow?

Found it, they make a satin one, you have to go to a small halogen bulb setup with an adapter but I've already switched to a Profoto halogen bulb so that may work, I'm going to try to order one.

Finally got my Quadra today! :D Got to play around with it already and I think I will like it. Everything looks good for except one thing (build quality). :s

Some first impressions -
1) The power looks like will be enough for what I want to use it.
2) Its so light! :O Unbelievable
3) The built quality sucks big time, after less then 1 hour of playing around with it in my flat, this happened -

I have no clue what to do now, I have it for less than a day and I broke it already... :(

And I guess it is not user replaceable part, so have to send it off for someone else to fix it... Would have expected a bit more of that high price item.

wow that sucks...how did it break? I also saw a thread where the speed ring adaptor unit clamp snapped off too...I'd agree that I'd want more durability for the price, especially if it is to be used on location...

Since I haven't heard reports of this happening or as a common problem I would guess that you just got unlucky and that part was either worn or had a defect in it.

That's the kind of thing I would expect to happen over a period of time or if exposed to a lot of changing weather conditions, going from hot to cold and perhaps causing cracks or weaknesses in the plastic.

That is a user replaceable part and I'm sure it can be ordered but if that were my Quadra and I had the ability to return or exchange I would exchange it even though many would just say to replace the part.
