Paul that 2m octa is crazy. What happens in a mild wind?

Do you use those large skylite panels a lot outdoors? Are they worth the effort of erecting and positioning?

So you use the quadra heads as highlight lights? I assume you're happy with them then. I'll probably pick up a set when my card has recovered from the ranger set. I do like their size and things like the builtin skyport.

Question, I will be using the ranger with skyport rx but my fill lights will be sb900's in ezyboxes etc which I will probably fire via PW. Is it possible to get the camera to fire both a PW and a skyport at the same time?

Paul - WOW!! That is quite a set-up!!! The Papa Ranger and Baby Ranger would be great if you have voice activated light stands - not everybody has that luxury!!

Hi Reba!

Nothing really, given you use a proper stand.(I used a Manfrotto 3071 (external link) with casters and of course a deadweight) It was quite windy at times and as you can see the Octa was raised a bit in the air as well.

I dont leave home without them on shoot like this, and rarely use them indoors in this manner. The setup time for one guy (attaching the fabric to the frame, and mounting the frame on stands with gripheads) is about 15min tops. Me and my assistent did it well under 10 minutes and we didnt really rush either. Of course we have gotten used to it. ;)

Yes i used the Quadra as a kicker/rim and im very happy with its performance thus far.

If you want to trigger them both with radio you would have to connect one to the hotshoe and to the pc-sync port to your camera. Easy way to attach the pw/skyport to camera with the hotshoe occupied is attaching a cold hotshoe to the base of your camera (tripod socket) if you use a vertical grip use little bracket (by manfrotto or make your own) The Skyport cable provided with the transmitter is very short, so if you plan on having the PW mounted on the hotshoe, you need a longer cable for the Skyport to be able to attach it to a bracket or hotshoe on your tripod socket.

You could also depend on the SU-4 mode of the SB-900 but unless you have a line of sight between the RX ranger and your SB-900 it might not work, and if your running your Ranger at lower powers the SB-900 will probably not detect the flash in bright light outdoors (of course depends on the distance)

Kindest Regards
Paul L.

I'm really upset that the adaptor is still not in stock (or is it?)...

It really limits the system, I want to use a beauty dish and more mods !!

Me too  I want to use my Deep Octa :(
I have the adapter on pre-order for weeks and just phoned my distributor, but there is no shipping date yet.
I also put the grid-reflector on pre-order... hoping to use these modifiers this summer!

Hi All, I'm new here although been lurking a little while.
Just wanted to say, I've had my Quadra 2 head kit for nearly 2 weeks and love it. I have the adaptor on order to use with my other Elinchrom modifiers. Looking forward to using them in our wedding season.
Heres some recent shots from testing.

Great pics! I love how far the Quadra throws light. How was the sun in this shot? And I agree, remote Skyport triggering is sexy.

Paul, very pro setup. Wow. So is the 2 meter Octalite worth the money? I'm considering the 69" Rotalux.
