Two with the Quadra on Manfrotto Nano stand with a Chimera softbox 40x55cm.

This setup is very easy to move around, and dont take up much space, here's two of my youngest daugther Leah in the kitchen. Quadra camera right, set to lowest power 8,2 Ws (these are shot @F/1,4)

OK here's some images.

Original

I replaced the red outlined washers (the big rubber washer and the thin metal washer) with a flat washer and a "locking" washer (rugged)

Replaced two washers

By just replacing the washer (mentioned) the original adapter works as it should, no creep whatsoever, if anything brakes it will be the plastic part at the base of the swivel mount.

Hope this helps.

Paul - thanks again for the details. The adapater is truly useless without this modification. I found the best thing to do was use replace the rubber washer with a star washer as you did but to also keep the original thin washer in place. I then added another star washer under it. I found if I used a thicker smooth washer anywhere it would still creep down... retaining the thin washer allowed the star washer to bite into it since it's quite maelable. Perfect now.

What would the best modifier for the Quadra be to shoot family portraits?

Would depend on the size of your family....:D

Seriously though, do you mean family portraits as in group shots ?

EDIT:Figured i move this here since most Quadra stuff is here. :-)

Tested the Elinchrom Deep Octa on the Quadra yesterday, been eager to really test the adapter after i replaced the two washers. (mentioned here) Its one thing to test it indoor, another to see how it works during actual use, setting up moving around etc.

So i and my faithful assisten (that would be my 6 year old son Zack..) ventured out last evning to do some "field testing"

The setup Quadra on a Elinchrom lightstand with the Elinchrom Deep Octa mounted, sandbag to weigh it down, since it was quite windy.

Conclusion

The adapter worked flawless, no creep at all, iv moved the stand with the Deep Octa a few times and there was no trouble at all. (you really dont need to tighten the swivel much at all to have it "lock")

Also for those interested in a quick test with Octa in various "modes" (I was out mainly just to try the adapter and the Deep Octa, i didnt think of it until we where done and Zack was quite tired of it all lol)

Here follows 3 images straight out of the camera. (apart from cropped and resized that is) I will do this more controlled in the studio later, if people find it useful enough

  • DeepOcta with only the inner baffel

Is there a head extension cable for the quadra heads? And has anyone found the adapter that lets you use regular ranger heads with the quadra pack?

Hi!

There are 3 cables, 3.5m, 2.5m, 1.5m, and they can be connected to each other and form a extension cable. (you might get a power loss, as you do with the Ranger RX)

I have all 3 lengths wich i find very useful. 1.5m for when i use the Quadra on sunbounce panel (would hate having my assistent tripping over cause the cable is to long) 2.5m for standard heights, and 3.5m for when i want to use high up,such on a boom etc.

I havent seen the adapter cable in stock anywhere yet.

Kindest
