Oh yeah, I agree totally - I just like making definitive statements to unanswerable questions :-)

Oh, ok. :D
THAT, I can understand.

Wwow that could solve a lot of problems for me if I could use a Quadra power pack but I wonder if that will make the Ranger heads fire okay at 400W and if it affects number of shots or recycling tme?

400Ws is 400Ws, irrespective of the head, as far as the pack is concerned.

Dry doesn't always work too well on forums, I admit :-)

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Was fiddling around the Quadra last night and I can see it's going to be great.

The lack of a modifier at the moment is severely frustrating me as I'd love to playing a whole lot more. My Adapters got slightly back ordered (should be here next week) so I can't currently use anything as the umbrellas I have are the larger mount.

Going to take it for a run bare flash tonight and try some 2 strobe shots of my car for something to do.

Put the umbrella swivel/adaptor on the lightstand, and put the Quadra above it with a reverse-spigot thing (or gaffa tape or a superclamp) :-)

Ahh, thank-you.

I managed to remove the hot-shoe adapter and the spigot was perfect.

Atleast I've got something to work with now.

Friends of ours are coming around this afternoon with their son this afternoon, hopefully they'll play model

I've got the DO and the MidiOcta, and they're fine.

Yes but do you actually use them to take photos?

I used them both yesterday, but seriously, I usually just look at them in their bags :-)

Now I know why you need bags, they spend so much time in them

The only caveat is you will lose the modelling light. Recycle time, etc is head independent. The flash duration MIGHT be slightly different if the Ranger head in questions uses a different tube (can't recall), but other than that you'd get all the benefits/features of the Q pack but with a full-sized Eli Ranger head ...save the modelling.

Yes, the Ranger and Quadra still have a standard sync jack and can be triggered by any trigger device.

thnx robert for chiming in so quickly.

I'm still really holding back on purchasing anything. What I want and what I need (as a hobbyist) puts me at a stand still. I like to cry once and get something I really want.

I'm just wondering if the 600rx will come with built in receivers in the near future. OR if the Ranger RX will have built in receivers. Or considering buying this:

in the meantime maybe I should order above since I know I'm going with the RX series.

hmmmmmm all I know is my speedlites have been wonderful but I've already killed 3 580exII's

Hey Ed, I used the Quadra and the Octas in some images! :-)

#1 - Deep Octa camera right (Quadra A channel), gridded 21cm reflector behind to camera left (Quadra B channel) as a hair/separation light.
