Well, I just noticed that concert images go in Urban Life rather than People, so here's a collage from a B. B. King concert I shot.

Very nice.
B.B looks great and the overall composition works fine for me.
Could it be that the two guys under the "King" and the one in the lower left of the photo could use some UMS?
Thank you for sharing. It looks very professional.

Cheers,
Jaime

Jaime, I assume you mean USM and find them 'soft' but to my eye they are fine. Often it is simply the odd lighting effects (blue being the worst I think) that give the impression of softness. I also expect that since all the images used other than the big one of B.B. and the one of the guitar player directly below his large image were shot from a tripod from the back of the room, any softness is the result of motion blur due to long exposure times ... this is the most difficult problem with Live Performance shooting. Thank you for your kind comment.

dwight, that larger bb king pic would make an awesome b&w. the lighting is perfect for it.

4nR, yup, probably, I was blown away when I saw it on my monitor, but while I can do some things quite well in my photo editor I don't do B&W well.

4, you are welcome to copy this image to play with. I went to the blogspot.com URL but it doesn't seem to have an email for you. If you email me at Dwight.McCann at isc.ucsb.edu I will email you a larger version of just the B.B. image for your manipulating pleasure. I have other fish to fry. :)

I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life and i would put seeing B.B. King in the top ten of them all. I saw him a couple of years ago here in Concord, NH and after the show he invited everyone there to file through his dressing room and he gave everyone a 8X10 autographed photo and a lapel pin of Lucille. He also shook hands with everyone and posed for photos with you if you wanted. He also signed CD liner notes for me. This went on for two hours after the show.

A true gentleman and a class act.

Well, he's 79 and diabetic and I really don't think he could have accmodated the crowd that came to see him at the casino, but yes, he is a class act!

this first one is just regular desaturation:

this second one has a little more contrast and sharp mask, which i probably went overboard with :o:
