Well, there's a 55-250 IS arriving today from Adorama and there are two Red Crossbills sitting patiently at my bird feeder. And I'm going nuts! Everybody tell me how much I will love it so I will have something to do while I wait!

OK, stare at the birds. Now, as you see them fly away that will be your sign that the UPS truck just arrived.

I'm sure there's a reason that people call it the "nifty two fifty" ;) I'm sure you will enjoy using it and it should make a great introduction into telephoto photography.

I hope so. I researched it to death and it came down to it or the 70-300 IS. The price was the deciding factor.

How exciting! Let us know what you think. I'm hoping to buy one of those next month for my trip to Yellowstone.

I have this lens and if yours is as sharp as mine ... you are really going to enjoy it. It is my walk around lens.

Thanks folks. I really have been going crazy watching these birds. I have Crossbills, Pigmy Nuthatches, Pine Siskins, Chicadees, and Doves daily since I ordered the lens. I have taken some shots with my old Quantaray 70-300, but it just isn't cutting it.

I used a friends over the weekend and it sure is a nice lens for the money. I was trying to catch little small birds in the trees and it locked focus no problem. The pictures came out nice and sharp, very impressed.

Thanks again folks. The one I ordered was the refurb from Adorama for 199.00 and free shipping. I thought that was a very good price and I have no problems with refubished. My bird feeders are only about ten feet from my sliding door so 250 should be plenty long.
Here's a link at Adorama if anyone is interested

I love mine, I just snapped these moments ago. No pp, compressed with Microsoft Paint to save file size when uploading to flickr. Mine was a refurb from there as well, it was immaculate

Great Shots and very handsome young men. Thanks for the encouraging news on the quality of the refurb. Santa should be here soon.

I got to test it in a low light auditorium as well, I was at least 100 feet from stage, hand-held on this one
