1DS Mark III on eCost.com $5809.17

Can this be real or is this place a scam? It says IN STOCK. The link came from live.com. The price is MUCH lower than the places I usually buy from (B&H, Adorama etc.)

I'd be tempted, but make sure you use a card company which you trust (AMEX).

Actually, pay through PayPal with an American Express card. That way you have two safety buffers.

And you can take up to six months with "Bill Me Later..."

AMex+paypal = that's what I normally do but still its a lot of money and I'd hate for it to turn into a huge hassle.

Can't tell if you're in the USofA or not but I'd just be sure that:
1) It's not grey market
2) You're prepared to defend yourself against the big up sell
3) You're prepared to hang up the phone if they start playing fast and loose

Yes USA. I don't know how I'd know if it was a gray market camera though. They can't upsell ME!

Unlike 99% of the population, you at least know what upselling is...

Say three "Hail Pekkas" and an "Our Canon" ;)

Not that it matters but how would they upsell if I ordered it via the web and paid with paypal anyhow?

They'd call you to "confirm the order" then start asking if you want this, this or that...

And if you start to decline, suddenly the sale won't be going as smoothly.

Maybe AMEX/PayPal is to the questionable shops like garlic is to vampires. But usually, if the price seems too good to be true, well, there's a reason...

I mean, $300 below Amazon or B&H is one thing but $3K off the MSRP?... That's enough to raise a red flag in my mind.

Good Luck. In all seriousness, I hope it turns out to be the score of the century for you! :)

I'm a little skidish at the moment. Going to sleep on it. But yeah its about $1k off the regular reliable place prices IIRC and that's what raised a flag in the first place. I'm not worried about the upsell but I'd hate to get a busted camera and have to fight to make it right.

i bought some stuff from them before. printer toner, i think, or some relatively inexpensive computer consumable. anyway, they seemed like any other discount online reseller. no obvious scamming or untoward behavior. i did buy from them because of price, though, so while i'm not endorsing them in any way, i don't think they're scammers. the product might be a refurb or grey or have some other reason for being so cheap and also being sold thru a company that mostly sells computer perpherals though.

You have a low chance of leaving happy... still worth a shot with "bill me later" and other services... I'd call as well and made sure they shipped immediately.
