Blue Coyote at the Chance 3-14-09 suggestions?

OK it's been awhile since I posted here, but I've been busy. This past weekend I shot Blue Coyote at the Chance in Poughkeepsie NY, good for a local place since it actually has a stage, lights and a sound guy! Not just a dark bar!

Not bad at all! My main suggestion would be to mind your focus. Nice sharp arms and guitars on the close-ups...

I think most of these shots are pretty good. But just like the above post suggested. Be careful with the focus. I know its hard to focus and re-compose. But I guess the difference between a good shooter and an average one is the attention to detail. One of the shot above, for example, you have the guitar block the artist's face. But I get this kind of shot all the time too. I guess we just have pay more attention to stuff like that.

Thanks everyone. While the focus is a slight issue it's somewhat hard to overcome since I'm mainly using the 100 macro and the 50 1.8. Neither known for good quick focusing.

With the guitar blocking his face, I know it's not great to do but I was going for the tapping, not his face. He likes the shot because he hates seeing photos of himself. hee hee!

Any suggestions on how to do the focusing better with those two lenses? They're playing the chance again in May opening for Blackfoot, and I want to get better shots. Of course these are an improvement over the first few times I shot there, so I must be doing something better!

John do you think stopping down the 50 more would produce shraper images? I worry about shutter speed a bit with stopping it down too much. Otherwise I'm not sure how to get sharper images at these events?
