A couple from the 50d /tammy 28-75. I do not have a tripod so accurate microadjust is out. I have done hand held w/ batteries, charts, dollar bills, porch light, straight on, angled and get different results...anyway these were shot at 0 adj. They are raw then converted to jpg - no processing.
first was 1/800, av, f2.8 - hair looks sharper than chin. her left eye is focus
second was 1/3200, av. f2.8 - focus at left eye

The photographer himself adds to much variability to render any judgment fairly about any lens! You must have the camera supported firmly, even if it is resting on a bench or rail! Yes, you shutter speeds are high, but you might be palsied -- although I will admit that 1/3200 should cover for you even if palsied! ;) Even your own heartbeat is enough to cause your body to move the plane of focus forward and backward from where you intended to shoot, so that while you might not be shakey you might not be at the place where focus was taken!

The Tamron 28-75 should be able to achieve shots like these crops.

shoot it at f/2.8--f/4.0:cool: and get a shutter speed around 400 and repost...i would like to see that in comparison,,,also set the iso at 100 and see if that will help....im betting it will be alot sharper...for the record,,f/8 is probably the sharpest point with a low shutter speed,,,,i would just like to see a few at the other stops

Are they processed at all?

The lens for sure is quite sharp. Some reviews even place it above the Canon 24-70 f2.8L in IQ.

An example at 75mm with the Canon 50d. Shot at ISO160, f4, 1/800.

You need to process all dSLR images because the Bayer filter and antialiasing introduces lessened sharpening inherently. All P&S cameras sharpen an amount predetermined by the manufacturer, but dSLRs do not tend to apply this same degree of sharpening. I merely applied the Unsharp Mask a moderate amount (not trying to achieve razor-like sharpening).
