Hi Folks

One recent posted discussed lens cleaning - one of your more learned members said he uses a Brillo Pad! Well, that didn't seem a bad idea to me as the fine wire wool of the Brillo Pad must be softer than the hard coating of the lens - so far, so good, I thought as I tried this - unfortunately the red carbolic soap in the pad left a ring around the threads of the lens.

I discussed this problem with my friends over a few pints in the pub and it was decided that I should put the lens in the dishwasher to wash the soap off at a fairly high temperature. This tried. the soap washed off but my 70-200 F4 L filled up with water and was only suitable for close macro work afterwards due to the change in refractive index.
Anyway - a few more pints and lots of technical discussion - it was found that the answer could be to put the 20D body on the lens before it goes into the dishwasher - this would hopefully keep the water out of the lens. I am just about to try this with my latest L series lens - has anyone get any beter suggestions?

Perhaps you should go down the local crematorium and say a few words as well! Perhaps a full frame sensor (1d...) would work best at keeping the water out.

Very funny.
