A friend of mine is getting rid of his Canon 75-300mm f4/5.6 lens. It's the non USM, non IS version. It's listed on the Canon site at £250 odd, which doesn't mean anything i know, he wants £80 for it, along with a soft bag for it (which i don't really need), a UV filter and another filter, not sure what that is, it says PL on the side of it?

Is it worth it? I can't see any on e-bay, they are all the USM version, which i presume is better, and going for £130-150 ish.

I know he will have looked after it and the few shots i took with it are ok (within my skill range)

Thanks if any of youguys and gals have any opinions :)

so decide if he has looked after it well but you might be better off getting a better lens.

Thanks

It's sat in front of me now and is pretty much spotless, he's the sort of guy who really cares for his stuff, so i know it's been looked after, here's a couple of shots i took at the weekend with it

Well if you would have this lens and it is one you would use i would say get it 100% nothing wrong with making a deal now and again, also he is your friend so he is not going to screw you over. :)

I think £80 for the lens is good value. Take the soft bag and the filters too - you might make a couple of bob for the filters on ebay if you don't want them, but keep the soft bag as all lenses should be protected. Maybe try and pick up a lens hood for it too. The shots you took show the lens is sharp. Good luck, and if your friend is selling anything else point him to me.... :-)

Thanks, i've just bought a Lowepro fastpack 200, would i need the lens in a bag aswell as in that? Will probably keep the bag just in case.

Thanks for the advice guys, if i fall out with it then i can always sell it and get the 55-250 IS, pretty sure i'll get my £80 back based on what you guys have said.

No you wont need the soft bag inside your fastpack. just keep it just incase. if you was going to buy a lens if you didnt get on with it you should get the 70 300 it has IS USM and it is brill and also if you was going to upgrade to a FF camera the 55 250 wont fit as it is EF-s not EF :) it is worth the extra money.
