Anyone have any input. I recently bought the 20D and am looking into getting a new all purpose lens. Ups? Downs? So far the only down I have seen is it's slowness and weight.

Regards,

It is quite good, close to 17-40 L in the wide side. It got a decent long side either. It is slow, but it has IS. It is compact, I don'y think it is heavy at all.

There are lot of topics in dpreview recently.
Here is one link I learnt from it:

I have it and am very happy with it. Online reviews have been favorable. Yes it is slow, but I don't do much inside photography without a flash and with IS you can hand hold it at slower shutter speeds. The enlargements (13" X 19") that I've been printing are sharp.

I have it and I am satisfied with it. For an outdoors walkaround lens it fills the bill nicely.

Have Fun,

The 17-85 is not a super-wide angle lens because it's an EF-S and it can never be used to capture 17mm view, only 28mm.
