what are you using to try and attempt to view raw files? CS3, LR, DPP, Windows viewer?

That would help. Also do you have your camera set in raw (believe me I have seen this happen also)

Congrats! You cannot view the raw files from the 50d or raw files on your PC from the Rebel. If it is the 50d, have you selected the raw option on the camera?

CS2 can't read 50d raw files. Use DPP that came with the camera.

Alright you will have to upload them and if i remember right CS2 does not support the 50d's raw files... so I beleive you are out of luck... But I might be wrong. Check to see if there is a codex for the XP windows viewer

Not sure about CS3. Check your ACR for an update. I believe that I read that CS3 doesn't support the 5D2 files and it might not support the 50d. But you can use DPP to convert your files then export to CS3.

Yes, you need to update your ACR file to accept the RAW files from the 50D.

Here's the link to the page (external link) where you can get the update of Camera Raw 4.6

Just follow the directions on the page.

I guess that depends on if you can't read your RAW files.
Newer versions of ACR are usually to make the software compatible with newer camera models RAW files.

If you aren't having any issues, I wouldn't bother with it.
Then again, you may want to update the software now, while the update is still available.
I had to dig a little to find it. It may not be there forever. :p

What if you get a great deal on a used 50D in a year?

In Bridge, select Tools-Cache-Purge Cache
That should fix it.
