I will be soon vacationing to NY and DC and currently have a 24-70 L lens on a 40d to do most to my shooting. Does anyone feel that adding a Tokina 11-16 2.8 or Canon 10-22 lens would make a valued difference in my picture taking? Would love to take night shots of monuments and building in dc and urban pictures in New York. Please your comments would be appreciated.

I personally love my UWA lens and take it everywhere. However, I suppose it depends on how you like to shoot. You can get by with a 24-70, but an UWA would give you more flexibility.

Odd, I was just in Hawaii:D

But yes, the 10-22 is a huge asset in NYC and will compliment the 24-70 nicely.

Also, not sure about DC, but in NYC you can be ticketed for using a tripod. You can get away with it, but if a cop sees you using one and wants to enforce it - he can give you a ticket.

Have a fun trip!

Definitely get the 10-22. I got mine for London and just used it in NYC again - great pictures - https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=650642

You will find the 24 end of the 24-70 not wide enough for a lot of shots.
