It's been rainy, windy and cold ... just how the Seattle-area high school baseball season usually starts.

Exif should be included. Mark II + 300 2.8.

C&C welcome.

Have fun!

My favorites of these are 3, 4 and 8. #2 I think could be cropped tigher to concentrate just on the catcher, and his face of pain (that must have hurt for him to have that expression on his face)..... 8 is a great example of plate action that I am having loads of trouble with....

Thanks for the comments, Pat.

Not an ideal crop on #2, but from the angle I was shooting at and my preference for standard crop dimensions, part of the batter had to come into play. I did try a portrait orientation crop, but it was a little too tight in my opinion.

#6 looks like a kid I tried out at catcher today, with no batter/foul tip though, ha. Actually we look to have a pretty good team with a good staff, all athletes with good attitudes! #1, 3 are back and new kid looks like he'll step in better for the hole than a kid we had last year, along with 3 good relievers. Hopefully be a good season to go out and join you in retirement from coaching ;) However, we don't start for another few weeks.

Diggin 3 the most, who's the lefty getting looks from?

Hey Mike -

I miss spending time on the field with the kids, but otherwise I am not missing coaching too much.

It's early, but Newport looks middle of the pack this season. The lefty kid threw 6 innings against them and gave up only 2 hits. He's committed to Oregon State. Decent stuff but not overpowering. I saw a few scouts at the game ... recall one guy with the Giants.

I didn't miss coaching in fall/winter too much, but did get to me at times just because I wasn't shooting on a normal basis either to keep busy. Definitely know what you're saying though as did miss being on the court. So far we're weeks ahead of what we were last year already and can't find a weak point yet, which I'm not complaining about...though this time next year I may have a rental in FL for a month of spring training instead of, well a month of spring training but as a coach in the cold weather.

Anyone like that kid feel free to throw on FSI - we're stocking up on prospects heavily this year :)

#5 is awesome. perfect shot of the pitchers hand so we all know what pitch is coming, the dreaded circle change. one of the nastiest pitches a left hander can throw. i thoroughly enjoyed all of the shots btw. and being a catcher, i know how he feels in "straight back"

May have to join you in FL.

I'll throw him up there. Gotta local kid on BA's Top HS 100 and another kid down by the Oregon border.

Glad you enjoyed them. At a very early age, I determined the "gear" was not for me and stuck to the hill.

Knowing the sport, players playing and coaching tendencies help catch the action. Baseball is full of situational tendencies ... some kids steal more than others ... coaches can be predictable.

Using your ears helps too, like for #8. I was focused on the batter and as soon as the pitcher began his delivery the runner took off for second base and the infield yelled, "steal!". Hearing that I quickly swung around and put the area around second base in the viewfinder. Can't recall how I acquired focus in this image, but my usual progression is to first look for the infielder covering the base. If he's there, I'll focus on him. If he's not there, then I'll quickly lock focus on the bag, and if there's enough time, release focus and recompose.

Hope this helps.
