User CP > attachments > you get attachments posted by respective user name. It lists the file name and size in KB. Next to that it says downloads and gives a numerical figure, what does the downloads amount signify ?

I think that # downloads = # of views.

Thanks Skip but I can't find a accurate correlation. For example a recent swallow photo I posted shows it had 110 views but the download number is 75

My thoughts on this.

On my own forum I have one picture, for example, that lists ~40 views and 1 download.

I suspect that it's accurate in that 40 people have opened the post and seen the picture while one person did a 'right-click saveAs' to get a copy of the pic.

In past experience I have discovered that not all downloads are malicious - that sometimes people actually download a pic to 'play' with it in their editor or to view histograms, etc (depending on the context of where it has been posted).

There is a setting in the CP that sets wether or not you see photos displayed in POTN or not. If you have the tick-box unticked, all you see is links to photos.

I guess that people on slow (or handheld devices) would have this option set so that they can read the text, but only view photos that they want to open (by clicking on the links).

That might well explain the disparity between thread views and attatchment downloads.

They could be downloading them to view EXIF data (for that matter, EXIF viewer routines may download the image in order to read that data). I've noticed that some EXIF viewers have trouble dealing with attachments.
