Check out the quality of the new A510/A520.

I was quite impressed Canon can pump out such quality from a little camera. Very light, small, has good wide angle and zoom, and it is cheap - $170 for 3.2 MP version. Something like $200 for the 4 MP version.

I just got an A510 about 3 days ago. However, I experieced a "replace battery" message after only about 20-30 shots. I think the battery chamber is not properly designed and made. After I press the battery and close the battery cover, I can go for another 50 shots with flash on. Then the message appears again. There is no clear indicator of the batter power until the red sign warning about low battery which is incorrect as I mentioned above.

Hmm, Might be your batteries. I am using rechargable NIMH and they have worked well for me so far. I did make sure that I bought the higher milliamp version. I do have a complaint about the batteries is that I never see the "replace batter" indicator. I will be shooting along and the camera will die without warning. Not even enough juice to retract the lens. But that is that normal AAs are for I guess :).

I have really liked mine so far. I have noticed that the compression of the images is a bit higher than I would like. I think it would produce better images if Canon hadn't been so aggressive in this dept. I should say that I just bought the camera as a handy carry around camera. I wanted more manual controls and its other features otherwise I would have gotten a slimmer model. But like the original poster mentioned the price is sure right. Since I carry it in my work bag, I won't be terribly upset if something happens to it.

edit: I think you might be seeing the warning cause the voltage is flucuating on your batteries. Constant flash is going to really hammer them. This might cause brief dips in the voltage and cause the warning to come up.

WOW! that is a great shot of that elephant in that gallery. I will have to figure out what kind of post-processing phil does. Those look very clean.

Even the pictures taken by cameras that are kown for producing very sharp images need a little processing.

I have the A95 (which recieved extremely good reviews) but most of the time, I have to boost the contrast a little in order to really make the colors pop up!! Also, pretty much all my pictures need a little sharpening. Some of the pictures I've edited just look like they were taken by a high end camera.

On some of my pictures, I even succeeded in creating an artificial blurry background that looks extremely realistic...

it's amazing what those editing tools can do for you.

regards

Try replacing your lithium battery. I was just reading about this yesterday. The manual says it was installed upon manufacture, not on purchase, and to be aware that it could be low.
Just an Idea.
Good Luck
