I've been shooting with the 11-16 on my 1D for a few weeks now, and it's a fantastic lens. Unbelievably sharp, well built, and the price is damned snazzy to boot! But, I'm trying to consolidate my lens lineup (see my gear list.)
Additionally, I've been on the ever long search for a 35mm lens to "consolidate" my 28/1.8 and 50/1.4 lenses (and snagged one from BH Photo last night.. excited for it to arrive.) I love those two primes, but I want to keep things simple and have a sweet prime in lieu of the 28 and 50 if possible. At the same time, I have a Tokina 10-17 Fisheye that can act as UWA in a pinch at 16mm and 17mm (albeit with more distortion than the 11-16.) So, why should I keep the 11-16, 35/1.4, and 10-17 (assuming I got rid of my 28/1.8 and 50/1.4?) What do you think of the performance vs value of the following two combinations?
1. Canon 35L, Toke 11-16, Toke 10-17
2. Canon 16-35, Toke 10-17
What do you guys all think of this? I already know what Perry thinks about the 35L, but since it's on its way here I'm going to give it a try. I tried to do as much researching as I could. In the past I've shot with the 16-35 breifly, but I never developed a real impression of it at that time. I probably will end up keeping the 35L and 11-16, but part of me still wonders about the 16-35 in comparison. 2 stops can really turn out to be a big difference.
I also forgot to note that on a 1D, the 11-16 shows no vingetting at 12.5 to 13mm... So, I only lose 3mm on the wide end compared to the 16-35.
