What he's referring to is most obvious in pic #2. Notice that the blue sky lightens and changes hue considerably around the profile of the boat. This is a "halo" and can sometimes be a challenge to avoid in HDR/tonemapped images. In pic #1, the halo is there as well around those boats. Sometimes, it is used as a kind of artistic effect, and in your pics above, I'm actually liking the halos. ;)

Since you're just starting out in HDR, it would be good for you to work on avoiding halos since sometimes they detract from the image. Check out this link (external link) for some quick and dirty tips on reducing halos in Photomatix. One last thought is that you're going to get nicer images by combining actual multiple exposures.

And BTW, nice shots.
