I think I have read a thread about this but I can't find it. I have been trying to get my XSi to focus on a distant object (my son at about 15-20 ft) but my camera keeps grabbing something closer (in this example the dugout walls). What am I doing wrong? Does it have anything to do with the lens (Canon 28-80 USM)? Thanks!

Are you manually choosing the focus point or are you letting the camera focus on what it likes?

LOL,, I thought I guessed that..

If you are using all the camera's focus points it's possible that a focus point grabbed focus where you didn't want it..

Try selecting a focus point where the subject is in your viewfinder.. You may have to read your camera's user manual..

I am turning the ring to the distance I want and then the camera auto focuses. Is that what you are asking?

Awesome Yogestee!!!!I could see in the viewfinder that the dots (points of focus) were on the dugout not my son. I am actually sitting next the manual right now and will check. I had to use it at baseball practice tonight for something else. Thanks a bunch!!

The manuals for all Canon cameras that I've read seem to have been written by English-as-a-first-language writers. For the most part, they're very informative (if endlessly repetitive).

I have seen manuals in English, French, Spanish, Swedish and Danish and they all appear to be good translations of the same original... Not sure which language is the original, but my guess is Japanese. And they are all repetitive.
