Hello all, I want to get a spare battery for my G6, and have seen one on the Euro Batteries website for just £14.54 inc postage. It is a 1500mah high capacity, and i wondered if anyone has bought one, or could recommend them. Also does it make any difference because the Canon battery that came with the camera is 1390mah. I have read that it is important to get the right battery, or else it could damage the camera. Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Regards, Phil.

I bought a spare battery in Jessops - their own make. It was half the price of a Canon battery and I've not noticed any difference in performance.

Thank's for the replies, checked-out previous threads on subject, but only refers to e-bay and does'nt answer my questions relating to euro batteries etc. Anyone else out there who can?

Phil.

PRJ, it's really hard to say anything about the Euro Battery 1500mAh batt, because it doesn't really give a lot of info beyond that. One thing you want to do is contact them to find out whether or not they are using Japanese cells to build the batteries. A lot of these 3rd party batteries use cheaper Chinese cells, which don't last nearly as long even though they are rated the same.

I can recommend SterlingTek's 1800 mAh batteries. They are made from Japanese cells, and Mike is very quick to respond to any queries. If you order from their site, the batteries are US$12 each.

Thank's for the info. is it ok to use the 1800 mah one though, (as i mentioned initially the original canon one being 1390 mah) e.g. would the step-up in mah do any damage to the camera? .....just want to make sure...and be safe.

Regards, Phil.

No it won't damage it. mAh is the amount of power that can be stored in the battary, technically the higher you go the longer it will last. It is not sending more power. Same for rechargabe AA batteries the 2500mAh last longer then the 1600mAh but they both have the same 1.25Volts.

As MegaZone23 stated, you need to make sure your getting good cells, the mAh rating is not the definitive judgement, I tried 2 different off-brand batteries (sunpack & lex or lux-something) for my Canon G6 and both were garbage. They were rated higher then the BP511-A yet both lasted a fraction of specifications and both ran out of juice within 2 weeks even if they were not in the camera. They seem to always be dead. Charing the battary I noticed both tend to be warm, while Canon's was room temp. the original OEM Canon battery seems to have an endless supply. I just bit the bullet and went with a Canon BP511-A.

But if you can located from other users good battaries go for it because the Canon is about $40-50.
