I just recently bought 50D, replacing my 40D. I am using alien bee 400, with my 40D, I have never got trouble connecting the cord to my 40D, but with 50D, the flash seems not communicating, so I can't use my strobes. What should I do ? THanks!!!

Whoa back up. You are connected via a pc synch cord? You've double checked the connection?

are you using live view?

live view disables the sync cord when you hit the shutter

a way to make it work is to disable silent mode or something in the live view settings

No, I didn't use the live view. It started working, but then on and off, now it doesn't work at all.... Do you think something wrong with the camera ?

but it works fine with your other cameras? So it wouldn't be the cord then...

How about putting your 430EX on your camera, set it to Manual power at 1/64, and let the optical slave triggers sync your bees.

Recheck the connection with another camera. That PC connection has historically been the weak point in camera to flash communication. There has been an on-going market for devices that straighten out the center pin and outer sleeve of PC connectors.

Yup, PC sync cords suck. Get some wireless triggers.
