I just got an even better deal. Picked up a photobag full of stuff at a garage sale for $40. I got a very nice EF 28mm f/2.8 out of the deal, then sold a 50 f/1.8 I for $40, a collection on non/semi-working stuff for $30, and an EF mount Vivtar 2X extender for $50. I guess I got a free 28mm f/2.8 and $80 in cash for going to that garage sale!

You sold a 50 f/1.8 MK1 for $40? That guy got an awesome deal! I sell them routinely (I've sold 4 now) for $165.

I picked up my 17-40L for £420 from free ads.

And the 100mm f/2.8 USM macro for £230 from a forum regular.

Both less than 12 months old, both in exc condition & boxed etc etc

I also bought my 'starter' 450D IS kit in summer 2009 for £350 as new/boxed too & last time I checked they still seem to fetch a similar price!!

As you can see from my signature, i have plenty of great lenses, all for cheap.
A few years ago, in London, a camera store had just opened, and they were doing a giveaway type thing.
I paid £50 to enter this lottery and WON !
This is what i received:
>5D MKII
>24-105 L
>70-200 f/2.8 (MK I)
and then for a further £700:
>24-70 f/2.8 !!!
>580EX
In total this setup would have cost in the area of £5000 - £6000 at the time i guess.
Thats my story, from 30d with a 28-135 and some film lenses and a cheap flash to pro photog gear

hi.

I keep sayin' I'm not lookin' for any new gear...but when the deal's there, I can't say no...

Got this puppy this morning for $30 at a thrift shop....(the aperture leaves are a bit slow to shut but there's no oil on them...and of course it's not a problem when used manually on the Canon)
...the focusing ring is nice and silky smooth, unlike modern AF barrels (and so a lot slower AF than the newer versions...but again not a problem for MF use)...

Not that it needs to be shown...but here's a quick test shot @5.6...100% corner crop (only sharpening is 3 on the DPP scale)...

Not only did I manage to find a 4 month old 17-50F2.8 OS for $410. I sold my 18-50F2.8 for $350. $60 for that kind of upgrade, yeah, couldn't pass.
