Can I do anything to keep the wheels from getting washed out?

Non-HDR to show wheel finish:

Hey All,

I see nothing wrong with the wheels. In fact I'd be more concerned with the haloing over the back window.

Looks like there is a little on the horizon above the hood too. I can fix those in photoshop pretty easy...

You need a light source hitting the wheels to create those specular highlights seen in pic #2. You could try to light the car with a shop light or large flashlight hitting that side of it from an angle at camera left. You don't want a whole lot of light, just enough to highlight the wheels. This may give you the effect you're looking for.

Guess what I'm looking for is a way to not HDR the wheels. They are bright as can be in my first bracket for the HDR but I don't want them to loose as much luster that they have in the top pic...

Maybe I can edit them in Photoshop to reduce the contrast some?

Take the original of the photo that has the wheels exposed best, layer it under the HDR, create a mask, and paint out the wheels so the original shows through. Quick and easy.
