I've been working on this photo of my Son and his Bride. They want it as a portrait by the guest book. So - 1. How is the concept and capture & 2. How is the B & W conversion?

Thanks

Wow. I really like it. only thing that draws my attention is her right hand in the middle of the picture. It looks like she didnt know where to put it. Great PP. Id like to know your BW technique

Thanks Speedster00, I do all my raw processing in Aperture so when I get the color picture where I like it - exposure, temp, contrast, & levels I then add the Monochrome Mixer and Color Monochrome filter. Then just tweak the sliders as needed. When I get it to where I like it I'll then bring it over to PS. In this photo I did all this and in PS I had to adjust some shadows in the leaves and lowered the Yellows a little.

I think it is just about perfect! Great concept and great capture. This will be nice beside the guest book. The monochrome conversion also looks good, but the proof will be in the print.

I hope the fact she's stepping on his foot isn't a sign of things to come :) I like the image, and the processing.

Concept and conversion is good.

Posing needs a little help. Her right hand makes it seem as if she's not completly trusting of your son to keep her off the ground. Same with the position of her head.

Suggestions:

  • Son needs to put one hand between her shoulder blades and the other (his left) in the small of her back. This will completely support her.
  • Son then needs to step just a bit further into her so he's not leaning over quite so much. This will allow him to carry her weight straight down through his frame rather than in his back - making for a more relaxed position for both of them. This relaxed feel will translate into the image and the viewer will see it.
  • She needs to either put both hands around his neck in an embrace (not as a grasping for support) or let them both hang below her as in being completely comfortable in the position.
  • She - one foot on the ground as she has it here. The other, a bit higher off the ground - not much, just a bit.

I think that these changes will make for much more balanced (no pun intended) image and both of them will be quite a bit more relaxed.

Thank you for your advice, I've printed them and we're off right now to try again. Hopefully the spot we were in isn't busy. It's spring brake in Daytona right now so it's kind of hectic... I thought I was at to high of an angle taking the pic, I'm also going to try a few snaps at a lower angle.

Thanks

She's a chiropractor so I'll bet there's a bunch of awkward situations in his future... :D

Love the shot, from being in the Navy a long time ago I use to see this a lot on the docks, piers. It would look cool if the background was on a pier. I think it would add to the uniform and feel of the image. Awesome job.

I love this type of input here! This is great stuff for the OP and people like me as well who would not have thought these "little" things through before the shots. Ty....ohhh....nice shot as well!

Ok, so after going through the tips with them and dealing with traffic and other people staring at us this is what I was able to get. I tried getting them to pose better "but" I kept getting "we're not models ya know that right" LOL... I "had" a perfect shot with her hands in the right place but a car came out of the alley right at that moment! So this is the best one from the afternoon shoot.

Of the two posted which one better, post 1 or this one?
