Just curious as to which lens is your go to lens when shooting wedding or portraits. Basically ... which lens is on your camera for most of the time

24-105mm f/4L. I just got back from a wedding and until it got too dark at the reception that lens did not leave my camera.

17-55 F2.8 IS stays on one camera for most of the day. The other cameras has a 10-22, 30 F1.4, 70-200 F2.8 IS, or 100mm F2.8 macro for various parts of the day, depending what i'm trying to do.

I don't do weddings but at banquets I use my 24-105 f/4 IS. I carry my 17-50 f/2.8 in my pocket but have not needed to switch to it.

Mainstay lens used to be the 24-70L on full frame; as soon as I get the 35L it's going to be a combination of 35L and 85L.

So I guess the 17-55 is replacing the 24-70 or is it a matter of preference?

I'm thinking of getting a used 17-55 2.8 Tamron as I have a small frame camera. Not sure at what point I stop spending money on this camera before I bale to a full frame, I guess the answer is when I make some money towrds it....

Not as bold as shooting a wedding yet but I like event photography and I just did a graduation party and it went great.

24-70 f2.8 / 30 f1.4 /70-200 f2.8 IS to name but 3 and I also really like my 105 f2.8 macro lens for portraits but prob wouldn't use it as such at a wedding as it's a bit slow for focusing.

Full frame is not a target, it's an option. 17-55 is generally favoured over the 24-70 for crop body owners.

I'm using my standard zoom less and less and the 35 and 85 are getting most of the use, even during the ceremony now. The 70-200 f/2.8 doesn't get enough light for many chapels, but the 35L and 85L do. What I still need the standard zoom for is getting extra scenery and a full width shot that I can't get with the 35L. it's making me really wish I had gotten the 24L, but it wasn't in the cards.

I use a 24-70L on my 50D most of the time, with the 70-200 and primes either nearby or on my 30D - although at times I do wish I had the 17-55 2.8IS for those those times that I'm in the motel room and can't back up enough (wall...), but opposing that statement is the extra bit of reach that I get for the 70mm (which ain't much mind you), not to mention that it's built like a brick.

And I also have used my 10-22 for indoors for those really wiiiide shots.

But I do miss not having IS...

Ken.

17-55 is my fav on my 40D (crop) . Even considering buying another as a back up lens, in case this one poops out on me during a wedding (I have back up lenses, but none as good as this one)
You get a lot of lens for the money with the 17-55, IMHO
