Bedsheet $7.99
2 cans tinted latex paint $12
faux roller $1
sponge $1

My second background painted on a cheapo bedsheet. I'm practicing on the bedsheets before I invest in a 10' x 20' muslin. It's actually a lot of fun painting these.....

+1 on wanting to know the technique.

I am into making my own backgrounds. I have done the tye-dye thing as well as using paper towels and a spray bottle with dye. My last one which I used the spray bottle came out looking like it was a molten type of bg... It was the look that I was going for.

I headed to walmart to buy some paint for the next two backgrounds. I'll post some photos or maybe a short video.

Thanks for the comments!

The paint colors I used were umbrella black and semi gloss white from walmart. I covered the tabletop with a cheap plastic drop and draped the bed sheet on top. Starting in a corner of the bedsheet using a small faux roller I covered a section with black paint. White is added in randon areas and when the two colors are sponged together the color changes to gray. By adding white paint to the roller loaded with black paint different shades of gray will appear. I used only one roller and kept adding the next color, constantly changing the patterns on the sheet. A couple of small sponges will add a cool effect. The paint will dry in about 25 mins in direct sunlight. Indoors will take much longer especially with the plastic underneath. If your not happy with the results just repaint!

Nice job! I like it.

Does it tolerate being rolled up for storage well?

I've heard that you can find muslin in that size at Johann Fabrics. They send out discount coupons in the mail and you can find some online. Cheap bedsheets are perfect for practicing. I bought the king sized bedsheet for $7.99. With paint added total was about $20.
