I was in a crime scene photography refresher school last week. Most of us in the class were Canon and Nikon with a couple of Fujis mixed in. I have extensive experience using the 40D, 20D, 300D etc.....there were a few people in the class that were having problems with err99's etc, and I would clear them for them. Then my friend pulls out his 1Ds Mark III and says can you take a look at mine......omg you guys are MASOCHISTS! I didnt know which end of the camera to look into.....that thing is down right intimidating! I was humbled to say the least!

It's not THAT hard to figure out if you're at least a little competent in machines. Hell the interface is almost exactly like the 40D.

......sigh the post was tongue in cheek. Yes, I finally felt my way around. But it made my 40D feel like a point and shoot in comparison....

I do know what you mean. 1D series cameras are massive. I still think the 5D is a pretty substantial camera (my family calls it the "huge" camera, especially when a flash is attached), but the 1D is like a massive pitcher-takin' machine. :)

Yeah, it's a big jump from the 40D/5D2 to the 1Ds3 IMO. The thing is huge, is built like a tank, and just oozes quality. It also makes you stick out a lot more, which is something i would rather not happen when I'm in public. :)

I was issued with a 1D MkII and a 20D/grip as a backup when I worked for a newspaper.. The 20D became my workhorse,,often leaving the 1D in my bag.. Having a 20D in your hand for 6-7 hours a day compared to a 1D is so much easier..
