Which are in your opinon the three most reliable shops in the Washington DC area? I am going over in a couple of months and will be looking for the 24LII and 580ex speedlight. Thank you!

Penn is decent and has several locations.

I prefer Ace photo out in Ashburn. http://www.acephoto.net/ (external link)

There's a shop in Burke, VA that I've heard good things about but have never visited. ETA: Just did some looking and the place is called Photocraft. http://www.ephotocraft.com/ (external link)

Penn and Ace both have rentals if you are looking to try something out.

Having said all that, I generally just order from B&H.

I guess "area" is a relative term, especially between those "out East" and otherwise. B&H NYC would be my answer.

Penn Camera has outlasted every reliable mom and pop store over the last decade, which says lots. They have 3-4 shops around the DC area, and can tell you which store has equipment. The sales peeps are reliable and experienced.

My students ask, "Where's that bazooka lens?"
