I heard about this a while ago and then could find nothing more on it. I thought maybe it was a vaporware lens. But, it seems finally the new lens will be released in July.

Looks like a fantastic walk around lens with 26-215mm equivalent on 1.6x crop bodies. Tokina makes pretty good stuff, generally, so I am excited to see how it performs.

Too bad Tokina doesn't offer lenses to the FF community. I wonder why.

OK, I'll help with the excitement - How many people own a lens marked 16.5MM?

I guess if you don't want/need a faster lens, then it would be nice to have just this one lens as opposed to buying two lenses (their 16-50 and 50-135) and having to swap depending upon shooting wide or telephoto.

It's a funny mark, 16,5, but it's not for me.
How much I adore my toke 11-16, This lens is to slow for me...
It'll be saving for a 16-35...

I'd be excited if I didn't have serious doubts about it. I had the old 28-200 Tokina and it was not a good lens. I now see a Tokina APS-C lens now that almost matches the FOV of the old lens and it only stirs up memories of a bad experience I had almost forgotten.

LOL

$825 for a slow vacation lens with a buzzy AF motor? Maybe that is Tokina's humorous "MSRP" akin to the Sigma "MSRP". I would expect this lens to retail around $400, not $800.

Yikes, even $400 is pushing it for a non-IS slow kit lens replacement. The Sigma 18-125 OS is $350, and it has OS! I'm thinking this won't kill too many 17-85 IS sales, either at that price. And it is only available in Canon and NIkon. Nikon has pretty good 16-85mm VR and 18-105VR or 18-135 non-vr in that price point. this is going to be a tough sell the more I think about it.

i do applaud them for the 16mm starting point. Canon doesn't have any real consumer options starting at 16mm like NIkon or Sony.

I am now officially un-excited.

ROFL, I think I just killed any interest with my previous 80.000yen post
either way, I'm dying to see test shots first.

I'd seriously consider trading the 28-135IS for this lens, as a general purpose, knock-around lens, especially if the IQ is on par or better than other ~$350 zooms. I probably wouldn't pay more than about $350 for such a lens though.
