Downside............... may be a little too sharp for portraits. You don't want to be showing every pore and thats what you stand you get.

...and that's why (many years ago) there were "Portrait lenses", which were soft. We used to smear Vaseline on the front of the lens - messy.

Now we simply blur in PP.

There is no such thing as too sharp!

I have none, that I can find, with similar framing and similar/same busy backround. I have 1 shot at f2.8 from the same day but she is closer to the backround so it would not be a fair comparison.

There is also another quality between the 85 and 60 that should be mentioned. Perspective. With the 60, you will "see" more backround in the frame, with a subject of equal size in the image which is not, usually, desirable. It's not a deal breaker, by any means, but somethig to keep in mind.

I'll give you an example. I sometimes shoot with her standing in a doorframe. The backround is a darked bedroom, giving me a perfect backdrop, since it looks like a gaduated nuetral density filter was applied to the "backdrop". Even at 75mm, I get some of the frame in the shot, with the 85, none. I can crop/clone the frame out but it's "work" since the shading is graduated and not that quick to make it look seemless when the intention is to print a 11 x 17.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
